Black Lancewood, 2024; Private commission
Powder coated steel, wood, custom installation
The Waterwall project sprang from Kim's interest in the homemade signs people displayed in the early weeks and months that immediately followed the February 2011 earth quakes in Christchurch when fresh water was only available from bottles, rain water storage, bore water and springs. Our precious artesian water that we so treasured had suddenly been put at risk and was no longer available to us.
We gathered bottles, buckets, rubbish bins, containers of any kind we could find. Lids were a bonus. The signs were a communication from strangers, random gifts from people in a town that often seemed completely deserted.
